Trump along with Japanese Recently Appointed Prime Minister Share Praise and Commit to Strengthen ‘Extraordinary’ Bond

In the course of a recent trip to Japan's capital, former US President Donald Trump together with Japan's new Premier Takaichi exchanged friendly praise and vowed to strengthen the currently robust two-way ties.

Key Points from the Encounter

Donald Trump commended Takaichi as a ‘exceptional’ leader and congratulated her on becoming Japan's first female premier. During their discussions at the capital's official venue, Trump expressed optimism that Takaichi would prove to be one of the ‘great prime ministers’ of the country.

The prime minister, who is a protégée of late Japanese leader Shinzo Abe, applauded his initiatives to address global disputes and reportedly vowed to put forward him for the prestigious award.

Trade and Defense Deals

The two governments revealed a series of joint projects in areas such as energy, AI, and rare earths. Japan-based firms are considering funding of up to $400 billion in the US.

Additionally, Japan had previously pledged $550bn in strategic US investments, loans, and guarantees as part of an agreement to secure exemption from Trump's tariffs.

Such moves are seen as possibly reducing any future requests from Trump for Tokyo to increase its defense spending. The prime minister responded to this by committing to accelerate plans to increase military budget to 2% of GDP.

This meeting underscores the continuing importance of the American-Japanese partnership and paves the way for additional cooperation on trade, security, and foreign policy areas.
