The acclaimed artist posted a moving reflection in the wake of the loss of the Hollywood legend in the iconic romance the 1973 hit. His life ended surrounded by loved ones at his cherished Sundance retreat.

In an online post, she reminisced regarding their time together while making the romantic drama.

“Every day on the set of that beloved movie was exciting, intense and completely magical,” her message read. “Our personalities contrasted greatly: he loved equestrian life; I was allergic to them! Nevertheless, we continually sought to find out more as people, similar to our roles in the film. Bob was charismatic, brilliant, deeply passionate, always interesting—and one of the finest actors ever. When we last met, during a lunch visit, we exchanged ideas on artistic expression and decided to send each other our early artwork. He was truly unique and I’m so grateful for having the chance to work with him.”

A Lasting Legacy

Romantic drama the movie was beloved by audiences and critics alike along with its memorable soundtrack rising to become a best-selling single and being nominated for Academy Award recognition.

This moving homage joins a long list across the entertainment world and past it following his passing. The esteemed actress, who collaborated with Redford in Out of Africa and Lions for Lambs, wrote, “A great spirit has left us. May he find peace my lovely friend.”

Another iconic co-star, who worked alongside him on several projects such as their famous comedy, shared her thoughts: “I was deeply affected upon learning about his passing. Tears won’t cease. He meant a lot to me and he had a generous spirit through and through. He advocated for a vision of the country that remains worth striving toward.”

A former political figure shared a picture featuring them together, stating: “He fought for progressive values like protecting the environment and cultural inclusivity while fostering chances for future talents of creators and advocates. A true American icon.”

Another accomplished actress, who starred in the moving story, which he both acted in and directed, looked back on their time together. “His demeanor was gentle, generous, and caring,” she expressed. “Bob taught me the depths of performance, and it was from his generosity and understanding that I felt encouraged to explore the potential of the craft. That same generosity and dedication to film led to the founding of the Sundance Institute, a place where directors and writers exchange ideas, motivate each other, and recognize mutual giftedness. I am grateful, Bob for having faith in my abilities and for your wisdom and support.”

It was further emphasized by a renowned director as a true “transformative figure”.

He was celebrated for his many films as a performer, like The Sting, and was instrumental within the independent film community, often viewed as a pioneer in American indie film.
